What Is WA PFML?
Washington's Paid Family & Medical Leave program provides up to 12 weeks of paid leave for qualifying events (new child, serious health condition, military family). The program is funded through payroll premiums shared between employers and employees.
2026 PFML Rate Changes
Total rate: 1.13% (up from 0.92% in 2025)
Medical premium: 58.8% of total
Family premium: 41.2% of total
Social Security wage cap: $176,100 (wages above this are exempt)
Employer vs. Employee Split
Under 50 employees: Employer is not required to pay any portion of the premium. Employees pay 100%.
50+ employees: Employer must pay 27.28% of the total premium. Employees pay 72.72%.
